Around ten per cent of people in the UK would do the dirty on their partner if they felt they could get away with it, according to a new study.
More than 3,000 married couples took part in the onepoll.com survey and nearly three quarters of those questioned stated that they feel a fling would see them end up in the divorce courts.
Despite this threat, 12 per cent owned up to having cheated on their partner, while a further 33 per cent said they had done so in a previous relationship.
A spokesperson for onepoll.com said that the results paint a sorry picture about the state of marriages in today's world.
"If this research is to believed, there are a lot of really unstable marriages in Britain. It's all very well enjoying the odd fantasy, but to actually deceive a partner for a meaningless fumble is not to be taken lightly," the representative said.
Meanwhile, a study by Sunshine.co.uk recently found that 74 per cent of British men think it is more acceptable to cheat on a girlfriend if the act takes place in a different postcode region.
