Safety cables are attached, so no need to panic!
|
Lounging around on a beach for a week, downing beverages and looking at the ladies is all very well... but it’s not enough for the man who craves action. Playboy gives you some adrenaline-raising activities that make a change from the 9 to 5 sun lounger routine.
Indoor skydiving
The world’s largest indoor skydiving facility is in Bedford – who knew? In fact, it’s such a leading location that Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko shot scenes for Bond film Quantum of Solace there last year. Winds reach speeds of 180 miles per hour in their huge tunnel where jumpers can experience a simulated sky dive. If you’d prefer the actual thrill of the ground rushing up to greet you the facility also offers their ‘Vertigo’ experience. Participants can jump off the top of the tower, in a simulated BASE jump, and fall 125 feet to ground level. Safety cables are attached, so no need to panic.

Tank driving
Tanks A Lot (hoho!) offer a day-long competitive event in which you can learn the basics of SAS training, marksmanship shooting with a 12 bore shotgun and how to fire an 18th century flintlock pistol – should come in handy! Competitors are also able to drive a gun tank, an amphibious all-terrain tank and an armoured personnel carrier. The day includes a walk through a wood and training on how to avoid landmines plus some top tips on jungle warfare. The winners of the competition have the chance to drive the Chieftain Battle Tank over a family saloon car. That’d make a nice picture for anyone’s Facebook.

Zip wires
Swinging through the forest on a high speed zip wire sounds like a hoot and is available at sites across the country run by 'high-wire forest adventure' providers, Go Ape!. Their centre in Scotland offers the longest zip wires in Britain, stretching over 400 metres, dangling thrill seekers 150ft over a 90ft waterfall. Courses vary according to location but typically feature high-level rope bridge crossing and high-speed zip wire descents.

Deer hunting
Some men like nothing more than slaying an innocent beast to shore up their masculinity – and you can join them! If you fancy the idea of gunning down Bambi’s mother then head to the wilds of Scotland and partake in the shooting fiesta run by Bruachan Fieldsports in Argyll. Their shooting holidays run from summer to February and the good news is that they can arrange gun hire and shooting licences. Red, Roe and Sika deer are all available for stalking and expeditions last around three hours a day. If you manage to bag your own beast it’s up to you to sort the carcass out, although special arrangements can be made with the professionals to do so on your behalf.

Drive a hovercraft
No, we don’t mean a cross Channel version, unfortunately, as risking the lives of hundreds of people would surely be an adrenaline-pumping trip into terror. No, these ones are a smaller two-man version which still make for an unusual ride to amaze your pals with down the pub. Midands-based company Avalanche Adventure offers instruction and land-and-water courses where you can test your newly-learned hovercraft-driving skills, including a course where you score points based on your top hovercraft mastery. If driving one of these machines doesn’t float your boat, other activities available include amphibious vehicle driving, quad bike racing and clay pigeon shooting.
